According to UNICEF, in Philippines, 23% of people live below international poverty line of US$1.25 per day. (2000-2009*) With this money a day, they will not able to eat proper meals and they can’t get a house. By these reasons, people live place like streets, dumpsites. Streets
and dumpsites is very difficult, dangerous, dirty place to live. A boy
name Kesz, the International Peace Prize Winner 2012, who lived in a
dumpsite where there was no education or healthcare had a warm heart. Kesz
recognised that Mr.Harnin, who saved Kesz’s life loved him because he
took Kesz to hospital when he got burned from dumpsite and continued to
care for him and give him an education. For Kesz, meeting Mr.Harnin was his turning point of his ‘whole’ life. Kesz wanted to share love with other poor children. He made his mind to do something worth fighting for such as educate them so that they could stand up for their rights. For those poor children, Kesz is the only light of this dystopian world. Nowadays, Kesz is teaching street children about basic hygiene and hopes.
Living
in a dumpsite is a dystopia to innocent children, so Kesz, once a
street himself, thinks educating street children about hygiene and hope
could make a difference to their lives. Kesz
planned his own organization, which calls ‘Championing Community
Children’ which aimed to give hopes to street children by showing them
that they can take their future into their own hands. At Championing Community Children, he tells that they could make their future by learning. If
street children grow up with lack of skills, than they will not able to
adapt to this society because they can’t get any good jobs with that
knowledge. Kesz worries about these happenings so he’s teaching street children to have better future. And also, ‘Championing Community Children’ teaches basic hygiene to street children once a week. Basic
hygiene is also very important, because in poor side in Philippines,
children are getting unhealthy due to lack of knowledge about health,
they don’t how to take care of themselves. They
don’t brush their teeth and they don’t even know washing their hands is
basic hygiene and it’s important, Kesz thinks, street children should
know basic hygiene and be aware of health threatening problems they face
in their lives. It’s
important that street children stay healthy because it is one of the
most important thing to live on but before Kesz educate to street
children, they lived without knowing basic hygiene so they were always
exposure to sickness and illness.
Kesz received love from other persons and now he knows he has to share love and hope with others. When Kesz got burns, he has been rescued by Mr. Harnin. When he got rescued by him, Kesz got first love from another person. And this event made Kesz want to share love with others. Kesz lived in a dumpsite without any love, so he don’t know what will love feels like. And there was very important event that make Kesz to recognise what’s love. After that big event, Kesz want to share love with street children as ‘My Father’ share love with me. When
Kesz was 7 years old, he didn’t want to get any birthday presents.
Instead of getting presents from other people, he uses his birthday to
give presents to other people.Kesz
know that street children are similar to Kesz’s life before he met Mr.
Harnin, which mean by giving small presents to street children, they
will get hopes and they will knew that they have love as Kesz got from
Mr. Harnin.
Until now, Kesz works for Philippines’ street children those living without home by educating them and sharing hope. By teaching them about how to take care of their health themselves and sharing hope by giving gift. By giving these to street children, they will have more knowledge and they could stay healthy by knowing basic hygiene. Kesz hopes that their future will be more utopia.
